Ain’t this some shit…
Demo Nation! Hello!
We’re going to be taking a listen to Rap Metal band Infina’s song Awakening. Clocking in at 4 minutes and 56 seconds, this song will fly by in no time. But, that’s all more reason to keep it on repeat, huh? Now, I’m not much of a musician (I’m still learning how to play, badly mind you) nor am I technical-minded (you music theory people are scary). So, I’m coming at you from your average music-loving hype girl angle.
Awakening was first released 10/31/24 on the Bandcamp (throw them a couple bucks 😉 and hear their latest releases early), then on Spotify on 11/7/24.
Our ears are first blessed with some gritty guitar. This is the melody that plays throughout the song and when the other instruments join in, there’s no getting it out of your head. Then Sli V Hazie speaks some not-so-sweet nothings to us before erupting into a scream. And I am awoken.
Verse one and two we are treated to a flow that is full of truth and nuances. For example: “Can you feel the dark but you know you got a spark ricochet to the heart in two.” This hits so hard. If, like me, you’re feeling heavy with mental illness but have so much you want to do but just can’t, Awakening is there to cheer you on. The lyrics are full of hope and reaching out for whatever your destiny may be – no matter what others think because Hazie is here for us (along with the rest of the band, of course).
At about the 2:30 mark, we get a lovely guitar break from the very talented Professor H3ritic. The drums, played by Den Pen, and bass join in. All culminating in what I envision to be our journey through the fog. The feelings I get are those of being lost and searching. Just like how long those feelings can last, this piece plays for a while. There’s a slow build-up until a sudden change pierces our ears. This brings hope and determination. No longer can we bear this fog. No longer can we be it. We run and search, looking for an out. There’s a brief moment where we think it’s too late. Then, there’s the glass. We break through and take hold of our destiny… Tic tic tic…
Anyway, go listen to Awakening by Infina! Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments, in their DMs, and their Threads. There is so much more coming from them and I, for one, am so excited. Are you?
